Dalhousie is a year-round destination, but each season changes the experience enough that it's worth planning around one deliberately rather than just picking a date that's convenient.
Summer (April–June)
The most popular window, and for a clear reason: daytime temperatures stay mild while much of north India is well into peak heat. Expect more visitors, fuller hotels, and Mall Road at its busiest.
Monsoon (July–August)
Quieter, greener, and noticeably cheaper — but with a real trade-off. Heavy rain is common, and landslides can affect the approach roads from Pathankot. If you're flexible and don't mind checking conditions before you travel, this is when the hillsides are at their most dramatic.
Autumn (September–November)
A shorter window that a lot of first-time visitors miss. Clear skies, cooler air, and noticeably fewer crowds than summer — often the best visibility for the mountain views the town is known for.
Winter (December–February)
Snowfall usually arrives by late December and can continue into February. Roads occasionally close temporarily after heavy snow, so winter visits reward a little flexibility in your plans. In exchange, you get a genuinely quiet hill town and, most years, snow on the ground.
